The Scam:

From New York City to Los Angeles, some Uber and Lyft drivers have been exploiting the platform’s protection of drivers and their vehicles by claiming passengers got sick and vomited in the car – thus damaging the vehicle and requiring a “cleaning fee”. This automatically charged fee, often amounting to over $250.00 can be incredibly difficult to fight or prove otherwise, as there’s no way for the passenger to document their trip after they’ve already left the vehicle – finding the surprising charge often hours later. Passengers can attempt to contact the company or submit a complaint, but rarely do these methods result in anything more than an automated email response.
