A large company located in Newport Beach called and felt they had an employee that was setting up a worker’s comp claim. He was refusing to come into the office and demanded to be a remote employee. He claimed he suffered a back injury while at the office and could no longer drive the distance needed to get to work.

After discussing the situation, we told them it was extremely important to begin surveillance as soon as possible. Given our extensive experience in workers comp investigations, we knew we needed to get started right away. This way, they could dispute any claims that were sure to arise in the near future. We scheduled in a week of surveillance, starting the very next day. We captured video of this person going to the gym every night for almost two hours! At one point he even bench pressed 250 lbs! Our investigator was going to the gym so much, we had to get a gym membership.

Surveillance Results Stopped the Case Before It Started

Sure enough a few weeks later, a worker’s comp claim was filed by the employee. However, because the client followed followed our advice, they were armed with evidence and were able to shut the claim down immediately. The few thousand dollars in surveillance saved the company tens of thousands of dollars in litigation. The employee was very lucky we didn't file a FD-1 form for insurance fraud. If you or your company doesn't know how to submit a case to the local district attorney for suspected insurance fraud. You can find that article here: How to report someone for insurance fraud.
